My Word For The New Year | 2018

I recently heard about this thing where people choose their word for the year. Just one word that they want to focus on for the year. I have never heard of this before, but I thought it sounded interesting so I thought I would make my first post for this blog about my word for 2018.

To do this I had to think for a while about what I wanted my word to be. What I wanted my word to mean for me, and what I wanted my word to do.

Why Just One Word

So as I said, this is a new concept to me. Every New Year many of us make New Year’s resolutions that we may stick to for a week or two, then we ditch these ideas. I know for me, every year it is the same resolution, lose weight. If my resolution is the same every.single.year, I must be doing something wrong. Right?

For others, they make a list of resolutions they can’t keep and find themselves overwhelmed and give up. And who else agrees that when we break promises to ourselves is when we feel the worst? I mean, if we can’t even stay committed to ourselves, how can we make promises and stay committed to others?

This is the premise behind the whole just one word thing. Why get overwhelmed with the list of promises we make to ourselves when we can focus on one word this year?

Where I Am Currently

As a mom of 5 (4 still at home) I finally decided a couple of years ago to get my college degree. I was so excited. I knew I had to do it online because at that time I still had one child not in school, and I am not about finding a babysitter. So I enrolled in Kaplan University.

I  graduated in July 2017 with my Associates of Applied Science in Business Administration. My student loans top $35,000, and still can’t really find a job in my degree field because I still don’t have a babysitter for after school, and my soon to be 16 year old will be starting her first job.

The point is, I need to make some money. These student loans are going to have me for lunch if I don’t find a way to pay them. And still pay the OTHER bills and buy groceries for a family of 6. Of course my husband does work, but I don’t expect him to do it all.

Where Am I Headed

I started following SAHM and even working moms on YouTube a couple of years ago, and that’s when I first learned your could get paid for making videos of your day to day life. My life isn’t that interesting, but that sure sounds like fun.

Even before YouTube, I heard about blogging. That was never anything I would’ve considered doing because I just don’t have that much to say. And again, my life is boring, honestly. Then one day I stumbled across this affiliate marketing company and found it pretty interesting.

I feared it was a scam, but the more in depth I got into the material, I started seeing it just might be legit. THEN, I realized it consisted of, at least one aspect of it, blogging. I felt a momentary twinge of disappointment, but started thinking about it realistically.

During my 2 years of college, I wrote a TON of papers. Many of them I dreaded and hated because the “topic” was boring. But I also remembered how much I enjoyed the research and development of those particular papers that were on subjects that I enjoyed.

So it occurs to me that blogging is writing about things I am interested in as well as my boring life, lol. And maybe, just maybe, people will relate to me just like I relate to the YouTubers that I follow! So I decided to go ahead and start a blog, 2 actually. My other blog is called Organizing Spaces at Check it out if you want. It’s about cleaning and organizing, (trying to stay on a budget), and decorating (rustic, farmhouse style), mainly! That’s kinda what I’m into right now.

But How Does That Pay Bills?

Well, as it turns out you can get paid by doing YouTube videos and blogging. My blogs use affiliate links that, when clicked on, will take you to where your can purchase items like for instance. This doesn’t cost you anything extra, but I make a small percentage if you make a purchase through one of these links during the “window of opportunity”. After a certain time span, that window closes.

I don’t currently have any links on this blog because it’s new, and I want to focus on building a solid foundation of content for you girls so that I can answer any questions or concerns, and learn things from y’all as well.

We’re gonna have fun here, so I hope if you found your way here, you will find your way back, and send your friends!

What’s the Word, You Ask?

So, I still haven’t said what my one word for 2018 is. After a little thought, and a lot of changing my mind (because honestly there are many words I want to focus on), the word I actually picked for 2018 is PRIORITIZE.

There are so many things I want to do. But there just isn’t enough time in a day for this momma to do them all, even if I am a SAHM. So this year I want to get my priorities straight, pick out the most important things, and focus on those.

This year I really want to get healthy. I say this every year, and every year I don’t make the necessary changes. I can’t get motivated, or I can’t stay motivated.

I want to make more time for myself without getting overwhelmed trying to do for everyone else. I want to take better care of myself. I am turning 41 in just a few days, and we only get one life to live. So I want my life to have more meaning besides waking up in the morning and going to bed at night.

If you’re a mom, or even if you’re not, what do you do for you? How do you get your “me” time?

If you have any questions or comments, please leave them below. I can’t wait to get this journey started.

*Not every post I write will include links, so don’t think I’m just here to sell something, because that really isn’t the case. I’m just a housewife, living a housewife’s life, and occasionally, trying to earn a dollar! (winky face)*
